Uncompromising quality is an integral part of the HANSA‑FLEX DNA. In the Competence Centre for Technology and Quality Assurance, 35 skilled technicians ensure compliance with the company's stringent quality standards - from the development of new products and work in the test laboratory to advising customers and processing complaints.
Early in 2024 the HANSA‑FLEX Competence Centre for Technology and Quality Assurance moved into new premises in Bremen, not far from company HQ. HANSA‑FLEX invested two million euros in the conversion of a former warehouse and the expansion of the machinery. The workshop, test laboratories, clean room and office space for the staff of 35 are spread over 900 m² on two floors. At the new site, the Technology, Applications Consulting and Quality Assurance departments are located under one roof for the first time. While the two technical departments focus on developing new products and advising customers, Quality Assurance monitors compliance with product quality and standards. In addition to geometrical precision and function, the zinc-nickel coating of articles, for example, is thoroughly checked in the test laboratory. Approval by the Quality Assurance department is a prerequisite for goods to leave the warehouse or for companies to be listed as new suppliers.

The new location takes cooperation between the two departments to a new level and creates a number of synergies. "After just a few weeks, we can already see how the shared location simplifies many things and opens up new opportunities. Our staff are not only impressed by the state-of-the-art equipment, but also by the great working atmosphere," explains Axel Tammen, Head of Technology and Quality Assurance at HANSA‑FLEX. This means that Quality Assurance is involved in the development of new products at an early stage and, conversely, possible causes of complaints are investigated jointly across departments.

Two million tests before product approval
The modest product designation GH 4000 B/05-21+ conceals the centrepiece of the new Competence Centre: a new test bench specially designed for impulse testing. Hose lines are briefly subjected to pressures of up to 560 bar. For a new hose line to fulfil the demanding HANSA‑FLEX criteria, it must successfully pass two million pressure tests in succession. At one pulse per second, such a quality test takes three weeks, during which the fully automated test bench is in operation day and night. The new clean room is another highlight, in which alone the amount of 200,000 euros was invested. This is where hose lines and pipelines are analysed for particles. "We are one of the very few companies in the industry that can afford its own clean room. However, this is not a luxury for us, but an absolute necessity in view of our uncompromisingly high quality standards," comments Tammen.
